Looking In, Seeing Out: Consciousness and Cosmos

Kafatos, Menas, & Kafatou, Thalia

This work shows how the beyond that is within parallels the beyond that is without, and that they are complementary aspects of the same reality. Physicist Kafatou describes the world of quantum physics whereas Kafatos is an information scientist and Reiki Master. They write: "Our position is that physics does not need mysticism for support, and neither does mysticism need physics for validation. Rather, the two are complementary. This book represents a synthesis. It synthesizes our training as two physicists and technical people with our study of metaphysics and Eastern philosophies and with our practice and experiences of Siddha meditation and other systems which expose one to other dimensions, such as Reiki, the Usui system of natural healing. It is our deepest belief that both science and philosophy, both physics and metaphysics, both everyday experiences and transcendent experiences are essential to our search for the truth about ourselves and our place in the vast, beautiful cosmos" (p. 13). Their final words are "Wholeness is experiencing ourselves as the Universe: so that seeing in and looking out became identical and Consciousness and the Cosmos are not different from each other" (p. 264).
