Water Witching U.S.A. (2nd ed.).

Vogt, Evon Z., & Hyman, Ray

This is a revised edition of a classic critical work on dowsing first published in 1959. It contains a 12-page postscript that describes the more important happenings in the dowsing world occurring since 1959, especially in regard to the rise of the "urban dowser." However, the authors state that nothing has happened to change any of the basic conclusions reached about dowsing in 1959. If anything, those conclusions are more timely today. Their main conclusion, in 1959 and in 1978, is "that water divining is not an empirically reliable technique for locating shallow underground water, but rather a form of magical divination" (p. 221).
