Mind Over Matter

Time-Life Books. Editors

This popular introduction to PK begins with a chapter on the "physical powers of will," which is a historical review of what are considered to be outstanding feats of PK. There follows an essay about poltergeists. Next is a chapter on experimental PK, including fraudulent subjects. Two theoretical essays follow, one trying to make sense of PK and the other on hypnosis. A chapter entitled "Mind Over Body" describes various physiological feats that could involve psychokinesis, such as various yogic feats, firewalking, and phenomena associated with saints such as levitation, and the art of archery. The final essay, "Training Visions into Reality," is about using visualization techniques to accomplish psychokinetic tasks. There is the usual high quality (and large quantity) of black and white and colored illustrations we have come to expect from a Time-Life book, as well as a bibliography and index.
