Liminality and Transitional Phenomena

Schwartz-Salant, Nathan, & Stein, Murray (Eds.).

This is a collection of 11 papers linked by the common theme of liminal or transitional phenomena and Jungian psychology. Although it is not indicated, the book also deals with creativity, which is often associated with liminality. Also, often these in-between states give rise to exceptional human experiences. Unaccountably, there is no Preface or Introduction. The authors and titles are as follows: "The Muddle in Analysis" by Murray Stein; "Ritual, Sacred Space, and Healing: The Psychoanalyst as Ritual Elder" by Robert L. Moore; "The Watcher at the Gates of Dawn: The Transformation of Self in Liminality and by the Transcendent Function" by James A. Hall; "Liminality and Animus in Blue Velvet" by Florence Wiedemann; "Winnicott's Area of Freedom: The Uncompromiseable" by Michael Eigen; "Transitional Phenomena in Clinical Practice: The Toad is Always Real" by Lena B. Ross; "Active Imagination as Imaginal Play-Space" by August J. Cwik; "On the Threshold of Change: Symbolization and Transitional Space" by Robert H. Hopcke; "The Interactive Field in Analysis: Agreements and Disagreements" by J. Marvin Spiegelman; "Playing with the Opposites: Symbolization and Transitional Space" by Ellen Y. Siegelman; and " 'The Shipwrecked Sailor': A Middle Kingdom Parable of Liminality and Transformation" by James Wyly and Susan Grandy.
