Abell, George O., & Singer, Barry (Eds.).

An anthology of criticial examinations of aspects of the "paranormal" by well-known scientists and skeptics, the aim of this work is to present the response of main line scientists to claims of the paranormal. Of the 20 chapters, eight are on parapsychology: "Parapsychology and Quantum Mechanics," by Martin Gardner; "Scientists and Psychics," by Ray Hyman; "On Double Standards" (on scientific prejudice against parapsychology), by Barry Singer; "The Subtlest Difference," by Isaac Asimov (on survival of death); "Life after Death," by Ronald K. Siegel (reprint of his Psychology Today article on NDES); "Psychic Healing," by William Nolen (excerpted in part from his book, Healing); "Science and the Chimera," by James Randi (on chicanery and pseudoscience); and "To Believe or Not to Believe," a general introduction to how we know, with some examples from parapsychology, by Barry Singer.
