Natural and Supernatural: A History of the Paranormal from Earliest Times to 1914

Inglis, Brian

British author/journalist Inglis presents a history of psychical research from earliest times through 1914. There are two chapters on primitives and psi, four on early civilizations, three on Christianity, five for the period 1200-1800, six on Mesmerism, five on spiritualism, four on psychical research, six on the Society for Psychical Research, and four on the first part of the 20th century. Throughout the book he emphasizes the ways in which psi phenomena have been received and interpreted throughout the ages. The evidence is not so much evaluated rationally as it is colored by emotions and prejudices, both for and against.
