Facilitators’ Guide to the Psychomanteum

Arcangel, Dianne D.

The author presents her research based on the psychomanteum technique developed by Raymond Moody, although she prefers to call it the oracle. The book is aimed at health-care professionals. She views the purpose of reunion experience as personal transformation, and therefore as an EHE. She tells how to create a psychomanteum, or enclosed sacred space. She also describes the role of the facilitator, the needs of the participants, including interviewing and preparing them. The procedure involved in a typical session is outlined in detail. Also covered are session documentation, follow-up, and commonly asked questions. Although Arcangel has set forth an approach for dealing with experiences of the oracle, it could be applied to many other types of exceptional experience as well. Emphasis is placed on honoring both the participant and his/her experience(s).
